Meta will pay up to $18 billion in the largest big tech settlement in history (so far). As part of the agreement, it will implement nationwide restrictions on teen use of Facebook and Instagram, including time limits, nighttime blocks, muted notifications during school hours, and removal of addictive features.

The recent Meta lawsuit settlement is a landmark, multibillionโ€‘dollar agreement between Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and a coalition of 47 U.S. states and territories over allegations that its platforms were designed in ways that harmed children and teens. The settlement is large, up to $17โ€“18 billion depending on the source and includes sweeping product changes aimed at youth safety.
